In "The Ice Tape" it is revealed that he is in fact the evil twin brother of Pops and that he must kill him to ensure the destruction of the universe. In the episode "Kill 'Em with Kindness" Pops tries to settles things peacefully with Malum Kranus but fails as he shows no mercy towards Pops. After he follows them to Pops' home planet, and engages Pops in an epic battle while his henchmen fight the park gang.

CJ/Cloudy Jay

When Raymond the mechanic talks to Benson about an issue via Mordecai's cell phone, he and Mordecai are ambushed by the Wickets. While the mechanic distracts the Wickets with a flamethrower, Mordecai gets into Benson's car and drives off to pick up Margaret. On their way to the airport, the Wickets catch up with them in a truck and two motorcycles and attack the car. Mordecai drives into a ramp under construction and shakes them off, causing one of the motorcycles to crash into a box and the other to bump into a wall as its two drivers fall to their death.

Death

He is an upright gentleman who is very kind and well-mannered to everyone. He is also very sensitive, often becoming upset or crying if his feelings are hurt. He has strong interests in poetry, wrestling, music, nature, animals, and games. Despite being an elderly man, he is very childish and is often oblivious to serious things around him.

Recurring characters

Pops gives Malum Kranus a hug and the two fly into the sun, killing them both in the process, and the universe is saved. In Heaven, Pops' voice is heard saying his catchphrase 'Jolly Good Show' as a VHS of the show ejects itself from a Hanatronic TV which was seen in "Eileen Flat Screen", and the series itself concludes. He is last seen in the same cell with Mr. Ross when the park is sent into space even after serving over five years, suggesting he received a lengthy prison sentence for all his scandals. Broseph Chillaxton (voiced by Robin Atkin Downes) is an invisible man who is the judge of a galactic court and appears in "Cool Bikes", in which Mordecai and Rigby are arrested for being "too cool" and taken to "Intergalactic Cool Court". Benson, who kept denying that they were cool, finally admits that they are when he is brought as a witness, but helps them escape after the judge sentences them to death. As the three exit the court's ship, Mordecai and Rigby throw their bicycles into a satellite dish, which explodes and destroys the whole court. Broseph Chillaxton later makes a cameo in "Exit 9B" as among the revived villains.

The Night Owl

Many scenes later, they appear again at the Park lake, where a wave machine was installed for Pops to practice surfing, turning violent on Pops. When the park gang fend off the surfers in a paddle boat, the trio call for reinforcements. While the groundskeepers defend him, Pops goes to ride the wave, but Hurl cranks the machine up to its highest level before the rest of the park gang stop him. After Pops successfully rides it, Hurl Hurlbutt and his friends are crushed by some dolphins from Pops's newfound bond with nature, seemingly killing them. Cat Masterson (voiced by Paul Scheer) is a director at Cat Masterson Studios and the villain in "Cat Videos".

Soul-Sucking Death Worm

He shoots a firework at the park gang, but hits El Diablo instead, setting it off. A firework version of the "South of the Line" mascot appears and shoots him with fireworks, catapulting Hector into the billboard of his business, where he explodes, setting off the other fireworks in his nearby warehouse. The Elevator Repairman (voiced by Jeff Bennett) is one of the villains from "Terror Tales of the Park V". Hi Five Ghost first meets him when he's going to meet Celia and asked if the elevator was fixed and he said it was and he let Hi Five Ghost use the elevator. When the elevator stops working, Hi Five Ghost calls him to fix it but he messes with Hi Five Ghost by playing ominous music and making the elevator go up and down very fast.

Grand Master Sensei of Death Kwon Do

Like Archie, he can transform into a crystal being but unlike his father, his form's color is silver and his face is displayed, therefore allowing him to speak English in his crystal form. Like the Guardians of Obsolete Formats, he can also understand what Archie is saying while he's in his crystal form. He creates a Wi-Fi Robot named Internet to seek revenge against his father for discrediting his format.

Rigby

regular show house

He made post-death appearances in the episodes "Trucker Hall of Fame" and "The Thanksgiving Special". Doom Ma Geddon, commonly known as Error 220 which was formerly called Error 219, is an evil computer virus who appears in the episode "Skips vs. Technology", having resided in Mordecai and Rigby's computer. As Techmo tries to eliminate him, Doom Ma Geddon takes over Techmo's body and tries to kill Mordecai, Rigby, and Skips. He can disintegrate anything his body touches by turning said objects into cubes. He is ultimately defeated when Mordecai and Rigby open up too many programs on the computer, slowing him down. This enables Skips to smash the computer with a sledgehammer, thus destroying the computer and Doom Ma Geddon at the same time and freeing Techmo from the virus's control.

However, when he attacked Pops, he soon realized that he was being sucked into the hole as well for being so hideous, but planned to drag Pops along with him. Luckily, he was stopped by Muscle Man who was also being sucked into the hole, but instead hit Huge Head, which sent him into the Ugly Hole. However, his head was too big and ended up getting stuck between dimensions, leaving him as a large floating head floating in midair. He is seen again in the episode "The Key to the Universe", but is already dead as his head is now a skeleton and is still floating in midair. Eileen first appeared and met Mordecai and Rigby in the episode "Brain Eraser", in which she was puzzled by the former's awkward behavior toward Margaret. She also appears in the episode "Do Me a Solid", in which Rigby learns of Eileen's crush on him.

He also appeared in "The Postcard" to help his brother decipher the words from a busted up postcard to determine where Hi Five promised to meet a girl named Celia many years ago. He later appeared to help Mordecai, Rigby, Hi Five Ghost & Muscle Man get a car so they can get burritos with all kinds of meat. In "1000th Chopper Flight Party", Mordecai is still awkward with her presence and afraid to screw up, even to the point of letting Rigby constantly mess up the Party as a diversion just to keep her away from him. When he finally is declared as the lucky guest to ride Chopper 6 for its 1000th flight, he finds it hard to say no and joins.

Ampex Quadruplex VTR (voiced by William Salyers) is one of the Guardians of Obsolete Formats whose head resembles an Ampex quadruplex VTR. CinemaScope Reel-to-Reel Projector (voiced by Richard McGonagle) is one of the Guardians of Obsolete Formats whose head resembles a CinemaScope reel-to-reel projector. The first plane had mechanical issues. The 2nd plane must have had bathroom issues because we did not have any food service whatsoever. That made for a long time not to have anything considering that we had just made it to the original gate and we had no time to stop to get food or a drink.

Then we didn't want to leave the gate to get food because we wouldn't know how much longer the delay would be. Had we been told that the total time would have been aprox 45 min later we would have left to get food and a beverage. We had to wait again for the okay to the pilot to take off so we were on the runway for another 20 min. Overall, we were delayed over 2 hours which felt like 4 hours. There was a .79 discrepancy between the cost of the flight and what was paid.

I felt scam to have to pay $50 additional for my carry on luggage which was free for my other airline. Didn’t make the connecting flight due to a delay on our first flight. Charlotte airport is miserable. For American I always have to connect from the end of terminal E to the end of terminal B and the stupid moving walkways are always broken.

The gentleman taking care of us on our flight was so nice, accommodating, and attentive. He always was smiling and giving pins to the kids which made me smile. The flight was quick too and without turbulence. Thank you for the great flying experience.

I would however fly Delta again. Delayed due to an ill passenger after loading. Not preventable on Delta's part. The seats are becoming worn and detaching from their velcro attachments. The attendant was not the friendliest.

Construction of the White House

in what state is the white house

During the 19th century the White House became a symbol of American democracy. In the minds of most Americans, the building was not a “palace” from which the president ruled but merely a temporary office and residence from which he served the people he governed. The White House belonged to the people, not the president, and the president occupied it only for as long as the people allowed him to stay. The idea of a president refusing to leave the White House after losing an election or an impeachment trial was unthinkable. White House, the official office and residence of the president of the United States at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W.

Today, we answered history’s call at this critical inflection point.

Hoban returned to rebuild the residence, and while work was completed in 1817, he continued to work on additions for several more years. In 1824, he added the South Portico for James Monroe, and he constructed the North Portico for Andrew Jackson from 1829 to 1830. A final major overhaul took place after Harry Truman entered office in 1945. With structural problems mounting from the 1902 installation of floor-bearing steel beams, most of the building’s interior was stripped bare as a new concrete foundation went in place. The Trumans helped redesign most of the state rooms and decorate the second and third floors, and the president proudly displayed the results during a televised tour of the completed house in 1952. William Taft hired architect Nathan Wyeth to expand the executive wing in 1909, resulting in the formation of the Oval Office as the president’s work space.

The War In Afghanistan

in what state is the white house

In Washington, D.C. It is perhaps the most famous and easily recognizable house in the world, serving as both the home and workplace of the president and the headquarters of the president’s principal staff members. The East Wing, which contains additional office space, was added to the White House in 1942. Among its uses, the East Wing has intermittently housed the offices and staff of the first lady and the White House Social Office. Rosalynn Carter, in 1977, was the first to place her personal office in the East Wing and to formally call it the "Office of the First Lady".

James Hoban: Architect of the White House

Scars from the 1814 fire appeared 176 years later, in 1990, when white paint was removed from the walls in the course of restoration. My predecessor promised infrastructure week every week for four years, but never built a damn thing. My bipartisan infrastructure law has now launched over 51,000 projects across every state and territory in America. The first Inaugural open house at the White House took place in 1805 and was held by President Thomas Jefferson following his swearing-in ceremony. While Mary Todd Lincoln lay in her room for five weeks grieving for her husband, many White House holdings were looted.

Construction Plan

It was coated with lime-based whitewash in 1798, producing a color that gave rise to its famous nickname. Built at a cost of $232,372, the two-story house was not quite completed when John Adams and Abigail Adams became the first residents on November 1, 1800. Dickens was not the only foreign visitor to be disappointed with the White House. The interior was redecorated during various presidential administrations and modern conveniences were regularly added, including a refrigerator in 1845, gas lighting in 1849, and electric lighting in 1891.

When Chester A. Arthur took office in 1881, he ordered renovations to the White House to take place as soon as the recently widowed Lucretia Garfield moved out. Over twenty wagonloads of furniture and household items were removed from the building and sold at a public auction.[57] All that was saved were bust portraits of John Adams and Martin Van Buren.[58] A proposal was made to build a new residence south of the White House, but it failed to gain support. Throughout history, the White House has been attacked on various occasions and suffered damage. The first ever damage was inflicted by British troops in 1814 where they not only burnt down Washington but also the White House and other federal buildings like the capitol.

Joe Biden

Various proposals were put forward during the late 19th century to significantly expand the President’s House or to build an entirely new residence, but these plans were never realized. George Washington did not enjoy the comforts of the famous house after he was inaugurated in 1789 because there was no capital city nor official residence. After the passing of the Residence Act, Philadelphia was the temporary capital where President George Washington stayed as the federal city was being built.

When Was the White House Built?

During the Kennedy administration, Rachel Lambert “Bunny” Mellon redesigned the White House gardens, including the famed Rose Garden outside the West Wing. The East Garden, also redesigned by Mellon, was later named in honor of Jacqueline Kennedy. First lady Michelle Obama added a 1,100-square-foot vegetable garden on the south grounds in 2009. In addition to the Presidential Bedroom Suite, the second floor includes historic spaces, such as the Queens’ Bedroom, the Treaty Room, the Yellow Oval Room, the Center Hall, and the East and West Sitting Rooms. The central Executive Residence is home to the president’s living spaces and the State Rooms. The ground floor originally housed service areas, but now includes the Diplomatic Reception Room, the White House Library, the Map Room, the Vermeil Room, and the China Room.

Tonight, Jews around the world will celebrate Passover, a holiday that reminds us that even in the face of persecution, if we hold on to faith, we shall overcome.Let us remember that even in the darkest times, the promise of God’s protection will give us strength to find hope. Today, we answered history’s call at this critical inflection point. With the signing of our national security package, we tell the world that America stands resolutely for democracy and freedom, and against tyranny and oppression. The White House has also been subjected to disaster, including two fires, one at the hands of the British in 1814 and one in the West Wing in 1929.

Allow an hour or two to do it justice and the visitors centre is open until 4pm daily. At 55,000 square feet, the six-floor White House boasts 132 rooms (16 are family guest rooms), along with 35 bathrooms. According to the official White House web page, it’s home to 28 fireplaces, eight staircases, three elevators, 412 doors and 147 windows—and has a kitchen equipped to serve full dinner for up to 140 guests, or hors d'oeuvres for 1,000-plus visitors. The White House is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., in Washington, D.C., perhaps the nation's most famous address.

The State Floor features some of the White House’s most treasured spaces, including the East Room, the Blue, Red, and Green Rooms, the State Dining Room, and the Family Dining Room. Located at the country’s most well-known address, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave in Washington, DC, the White House is America’s most iconic home. The official residence and office of the president of the United States, the White House has been the home of every president since John Adams and the site of some of the most important events in American history.

The West Wing also houses the Situation Room, the Cabinet Room, the Press Room, and offices for advisors and the chief of staff. Additional offices for the president’s staff are located in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The vice president has an office in the West Wing, as well as the ceremonial office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. When President Harry S. Truman moved into the White House in 1945, he became concerned about the state of the building. In 1947, a chandelier in the Blue Room almost fell on Bess Truman and her guests from the Daughters of the American Revolution, and in 1948, the leg of Margaret Truman’s piano pierced through the floor of what is now the private dining room.

After eight years of construction, President John Adams and his wife Abigail moved into the still-unfinished residence. During the War of 1812, the British set fire to the President’s House, and James Hoban was appointed to rebuild it. James Monroe moved into the building in 1817, and during his administration, the South Portico was constructed.

Six desks have been used in the Oval Office, the most famous of which is the Resolute desk. Made of wood from the HMS Resolute, the desk is currently in use by President Biden. The White House’s attic was converted into a third floor during the Coolidge administration, and over the years, it has hosted a music room for President Clinton and a bedroom suite for Melania Trump. There is also a solarium, added by Grace Coolidge, with panoramic views of the Mall. Architect Lorenzo Winslow oversaw the three-year gut renovation, during which the inside of the White House was demolished and completely rebuilt.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches

charlotte tilbury pillow talk swatch

Romance Light is the lighter variation which I prefer for my skin tone. I don’t know that I would call it a must-have since you can get a similar effect with other highlighters on the market. While it is matte, it’s got a little bit of slip to it. It will look nice even if only a very thin layer is applied.

Latest Reviews

I also like a monochromatic vibe, though the Pillow Talk lipstick washes me out. Yeah, I don’t know how well this will work on medium or darker skin tones. I felt like it was close to washing me out, and I’m more light to light-medium. Charlotte Tilbury has decoded her artistry into an easy 2-step ritual to recreate that youthful flush of first love that she calls a “love glow”.

I also wanted to see for myself if the Pillow Talk lipsticks are really worth it or not. If you’ve followed me for anytime, you know I’m normally a drugstore lipstick kinda gal. After years and years of hearing how amazing Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lipsticks are, I finally did it. It’s quite a monochrome colour story here, with deeper and richer shades. The quality is there, but personally I am not really a fan. The shades are pretty similar to each other and lots that are already in the market.

Hi Christine, I just wanted to know where you got the 0.31 oz number from?? I’m debating on getting this palette, but the amount per pan is kind of a dealbreaker for me if it’s really 0.02 oz per shadow/0.24 oz total. Christine Mielke is the editor-in-chief and has been reviewing products for over 14 years. Last I have a quick look at the Pillow Talk Beauty Light Wands ($40 each) in Pillow Talk Light/Medium and Medium/Deep. These have been restocked so if you had your eye on these they’re back!

Pillow Talk Dreams #3

So today I’m excited to share my honest Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick Review and lipstick swatches of both the original and medium pillow talk lipsticks on fair skin. Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Revolution Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium pink with warmer undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had medium, buildable color coverage--up to mostly opaque--with a velvety, smooth, and thin consistency that clung a bit to lips, though not in an uncomfortable, drying kind of way. I just felt like it had a tendency to emphasize my lip lines a bit as some color pulled into them. Pillow Talk Dreams #4 is a deep brown with subtle, warm red undertones and a matte finish. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

It’s more orangey, but still brown, and has a little color variation in the highlight and pop shades. I bought it last summer (when it was still LE) and I have hit pan on all the shadows! It’s my everyday life saviour, makes you look great, best version of yourself. I recommend applying a glitter glue under the pop shade- it prevents fallout throughout the day. I would 100% repurchase and now I can because It’s permanent!

I have the original Pillow Talk palette, so I don’t think I need this one, too. Well, I think she and Tom Ford both think it’s the magical component of their quads since they continue to include them in just about every quad, LOL. I wish they’d reformulate + innovate so that they were more naturally adhesive or maybe use finer sparkle and more base pigment.

NEW! BEAUTIFUL SKIN ISLAND GLOW EASY TANNING DROPSFAIR TO MEDIUM

As someone who normally purchases $10 or less drugstore lipsticks, the pillow talk price tag of $34 is definitely higher than what I’m used to paying. Also, if you’re the type of person who likes to wear the same lipstick shade everyday, then again this is one of the best lipsticks you can buy for versatility. I am warm undertoned; olive who looks grey in winter and dirty honey coloured in summer. I need true autumn lipstick colours and this isn't it.This is very drying and emphasises all my lines. I’d love to see your take on the CT quads Christine like you did for the ND palettes, using the massive library of shadow singles from like CP and SG.

The Pillow Talk Medium lipstick is a warm berry pink that almost leans terracotta for me. It comes in the Matte Revolution formula, which has a smooth matte finish with a slightly powdery feel. I find that these last a good 3-4 hours on me, and that’s even with drinking water constantly. Plus, I’ll break down all the details of the CT pillow talk lipsticks including formula, shade, packaging, ingredients, and how long it lasts on the lips. The texture and wear are great, as is the packaging.

It’s a semi-miss for me, mainly because the color is a bit too deep for my skin tone as a highlighter. On my skin it pulls very copper, very warm and a bit too dramatic. It would probably work better on someone with very tan to deep skin tone. I think the colors are stunning as an eyeshadow palette. While the full size Pillow Talk lipstick retails for $34, Charlotte Tilbury puts out several kits that contain a mini-size Pillow Talk combined with other products from her line.

Pillow Talk Dreams #3 is a medium copper with warm, rosy undertones and a sparkly finish. It had a slightly emollient feel, which made it feel firmer in the pan, but it wasn’t stiff to pick up or to blend out, though there was light fallout. It had mostly opaque, buildable color payoff that lasted well for eight hours before fading and had light fallout over time. Pillow Talk Dreams #1 is a light-medium, rosy copper with warm undertones and a bright, metallic sheen. The eyeshadow had a smooth, almost cream-like texture that was finely-milled and dense without being thick.

I bought this palette and I think that the colors are far more orange than they look in the pan. Reminds me very much of Naked Heat which I own and rarely iuse. Despite the great reviews, I will.pass bc they are not my colors. If you’re shopping multiple items I highly recommend you check Charlotte Tilbury’s website first to see if the colors you’re looking for are still in stock. She has bundles available and most of them are customizable and have a price break. There are some new Pillow Talk launches from Charlotte Tilbury and I have a full haul + swatches for you!

It was really a nude on me, so I’m glad to see new shades that will work for anyone with a deeper skin tone. I swatched all the new products in store, and I loved the Pillow Talk Medium shade the best, plus I like the Matte Revolution formula slightly better than the K.I.S.S.I.N.G. formula. Nordstrom gets first access to the release beginning today (for this as well as the Pillow Talk blush, which I reviewed late last year).

Toodour’s 29.5-foot string lights feature 60 icicles strands, for a total of 360 LED lights, and the brand also offers string lights in lengths up to 100 feet. The strands are waterproof, with an ingress protection rating of IP44, though it’s important to remember that its adapter does not feature the same waterproofing and should be protected from the elements. On the Fairy Lights Factory website, you’ll find over 30 pre-designed lighting sets as well as a build-your-own service that allows you to create your own color schemes. Among the brand’s sets you’ll find Nathan, which will look right at home among Hanukkah decorations, Vanille, which gives a traditional and neutral winter glow, and so many more. Each string features 100 lights, spread across a cord that’s just under 20 feet. With a classic green cord, they’ll blend seamlessly against Christmas trees and shrubbery.

They're also not nearly as enormous as they may appear in the photo. In fact, they're about the same size as your typical Christmas ornaments, so if you want to add a touch of whimsy to your tree, you can't go wrong with these. Otherwise, string them up outside to give your neighbors a real feast for the eyes.

How to Decorate Your House With Christmas Lights

However, if you’re looking to line the eaves of a large house, you might need 100 feet or more. When you’re buying lights for outdoor use, it’s important to make sure they can hold up to the elements. Most of the best Christmas lights for the outdoors feature ingress protection ratings, which certify how well they keep out water and snow. With 900 LEDs lining the interior of the transparent 50-foot Guotong rope, this rope light can get very bright—so much so that it may be too much for a lot of in-home applications. The rope is fully waterproofed for outdoor use, with an IP65 ingress protection rating and thick walls that are sturdy enough to keep moisture out. With so much innovation going on across tech, it’s about time someone innovated the Christmas light.

In case you’re looking to deck your halls with smart Christmas lights, we’ve got you covered for that, too. Connecting multiple strands of Christmas lights together can be dangerous if the circuits short or overload. Mitigate this risk by installing a ground fault circuit interrupter device, which protects you from electrical shocks. "Safety is our priority and this adds a layer of protection," says Derek Miller, senior turf grass technician at Pennsylvania's Longwood Gardens. “The main difference between outdoor and indoor lights is that they are constructed to prevent moisture from causing electrical failures,” Cavallaro states. That said, before hanging them you should check how hot the lights get and if there are any instructions stating that they specifically should not be used inside.

One five-star reviewer loved that these lights were so long and waterproof. Looking for a unique alternative to the traditional icicle string lights? These meteor shower-inspired lights look like falling stars cascading from trees (or wherever else you hang them from). You can score them in white, as seen here, or in a cool blue or purple. "When you first turn them on, they are synced up, but the longer they remain lit, they fall out of sequence and fall into a pattern of falling rain, which looks very cool and unique." The sun may be setting hours earlier than a few months ago, but one good thing about dark afternoons is letting the best outdoor Christmas lights shine.

Grab your extension ladder and measuring tape, enlist a note-taker and go back outside to measure the areas you’ve decided to decorate. Measure the circumference of tree trunks, determine the dimensions of bushes or shrubs, and calculate the entire length on both sides of walkways and the driveway. This year, elevate your house to "oooh and ahhh" status with the best outdoor Christmas light ideas and tips. Most solar-powered Christmas lights use LED bulbs and will power themselves without affecting your energy bill. Altogether, we think the Lyhope net light is a solid choice for a warm LED net light that won’t cost you too much, especially with its nearly 10-foot lead power line and water (and snow) proofing. While these incandescents might not last as long as contemporary LEDs and will consume more energy, their classic appeal and solid value make them the best choice for colorful Christmas lights.

The Herman family does their home up with dreidels, Jewish stars, and all things Hanukkah, and surrounding homes also deck their halls with flare. Six houses in a row time their lights to music, making this one of the biggest residential light shows in the state. And with individual clips attached to each light, it's easy to line your roof (or just about anything). One customer says, "These lights are perfect for Christmas and any time of the year. While the potential to wow is vast, be aware that some users say programming your Twinkly Strings is a bit of a fussy business. Two replacement fuses, two replacement bulbs, and two flasher bulbs are included with the purchase, which make repairs easy and will keep your string of lights twinkling for longer. The lights are typically on by 7pm (though most turn on at dusk). If you're looking for the most holiday lights per square foot, Candy Cane Lane is your destination. The street itself is closed to cars, making for a delightful, one-block family stroll, and parking is available throughout the rest of the (well-decorated) neighborhood.

Charlotte Rampling Biography, Movie Highlights and Photos

My husband at the time, Jean-Michel Jarre, really wanted to do the music. I loved this book and I loved the character of Jessica. He was unable to do it, and the next one was the David Lynch one, which I was not in. [Laughs.] Denis Villeneuve, I’ve been admiring his work, he makes very big films but he has a European heart — he’s Canadian, but he has a great intimacy in the way he works. When he asked me to do that, it seemed to make sense.

This movie focuses on a dozen of the five hundred characters depicted in Bruegel's painting. The theme of Christ's suffering is set against religious persecution in Flanders in 1564. Two sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth.

She has just moved, she explains, to a new place in Paris, the city in which she has lived for decades, and nothing is where she expects it to be. “Yes, I really was pinging,” she says, with that imperious cut-glass accent. “Pinging is when you’re at the right place at the right time, and you know you can just make magic happen everywhere.” We don’t ping often in life, she says, but when we do, it’s wonderful. In that film, Rampling played one of her prickliest characters, a callous and ambivalent mother who prefers to blithely take a bath during her daughter’s (Kirsten Dunst) wedding reception rather than make small talk or give toasts with the guests downstairs. Tessa Charlotte Rampling OBE (born 5 February 1946) is an English actress, model and singer, known for her work in European arthouse films in English, French, and Italian. An icon of the Swinging Sixties, she began her career as a model and later became a fashion icon and muse.

I said, “There’s something happening here that’s working,” because it wasn’t just going into a big-budget film. That’s really what I wanted to speak to Matthew about. Because he had based it on his childhood, and the role was a loose portrayal of his grandmother—just in certain character traits and the fact she was in her 80s. When I read it, she was more of this cranky older woman, and I said to him, “I really would like her to be around my age. Maybe I could play this character in a few years, but I don’t really want to go there now.” [Laughs.] And he was fine with that.

Her Anne Boleyn in "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" (1972) also trod a delicate line between seductiveness and sadness as she attempted to bend the will of Henry (Keith Michell) to hers before meeting her fabled end. The film was condemned and celebrated with equal fervor during its release, but all parties agreed that Rampling's performance, which featured her in feverish scenes of morbid fetishism, was the film's highlight. The picture did much to cement Rampling as the thinking man's sex symbol, as did a 1973 layout for Playboy shot by Helmut Newton and a widespread rumor that she lived in a ménage-a-trois with her then-husband, publicist Bryan Southcombe, and male model Randall Laurence.

Her film roles include Georgy Girl (1966), The Damned (1969), Henry VIII and His Six Wives (1972), The Night Porter (1974), Farewell, My Lovely (1975), Stardust Memories (1980), The Verdict (1982), Angel Heart (1987), DOAThe Duchess (2008), 45 Years (2015), and Hannah (2017). She has also made television appearances, which include Dexter, Restless, Broadchurch and London Spy. It is rare to find a mention of Rampling that does not refer to her credentials as a muse. She has been a muse to François Ozon, who revived her film career in the late 90s, to designer Yves St Laurent and photographers Helmut Newton and Juergen Teller (posing nude for the latter in front of the Mona Lisa), and now to Andrea Pallaoro, too.

It was a little too almost like caricature, and I said, I think we can still make some fun with somebody who’s still got it in her, who thinks she can have more great love affairs, which I think his grandmother sort of did too. So we played with the feelings, the alive feelings of this woman, knowing she was going to die, but her alive feelings. Rampling continued to work in both English and French language projects, playing the Countess Spencer in The Duchess (2008), and later reunited with co-star Keira Knightley for Never Let Me Go (2010). In 2011, she appeared in Lars von Trier's Melancholia; the following year, she earned an Emmy nomination for her work in the BBC miniseries Restless. In 2015, she nabbed her first Academy Award nomination for her work in 45 Years. English actress Charlotte Rampling began her acting career in 1965.

Meanwhile, Rampling starred "Rio Sex Comedy" (2010) opposite Bill Pullman and Fisher Stevens, and joined an ensemble cast for the biblically-themed drama "The Mill and the Cross" (2011). From there, Rampling was the superior of a Secret Service agent (Sean Bean) determined to stop a suicide bombing in the taut British thriller "Cleanskin" (2012). She went on to earn critical praise and A SAG award nod for her turn as a mother whose daughter investigates her past as a World War II spy in the made-for-cable movie "Restless" (Sundance Channel, 2012), which was adapted from William Boyd's award-winning novel. Tessa Charlotte Rampling OBE (born 5 February 1946)[1] is an English actress.[2][3] An icon of the Swinging Sixties, she began her career as a model.[4] She was cast in the role of Meredith in the 1966 film Georgy Girl, which starred Lynn Redgrave.

“By the time he left, I knew I was going to do it,” she adds. As Rampling reached her sixth decade, her career showed no signs of slowing down. A fourth Cesar nod came in 2005 with "Lemming," a psychological thriller with Rampling as the neurotic dinner guest whose arrival signaled an explosion of ill feelings and violence. Rampling also made news during this period for launching a lawsuit in 2009 to prevent the publication of a biography, penned by a close friend, that detailed her emotional travails in the wake of her sister's suicide and the infidelities inflicted upon her by Jarre. "Night Porter" would prove a difficult film to surpass for any actress, but Rampling wisely sidestepped the problem by focusing on films that satisfied her as an actress, rather than those that simply generated more publicity.

At 17, she was spotted by a casting agent, and made her proper film debut (she was uncredited for a nightclub scene in A Hard Day’s Night) in the Boulting brothers’ comedy Rotten To The Core in 1965. A year later she struck gold with the 60s classic Georgy Girl, an upbeat comedy with a dark underbelly in which she played posh mean-girl Meredith. I remind Rampling of the trailer, which describes her as a “sexy little dish” and “a doll never out of trouble”.

Barely noticeable during the day and bright and beautiful at night, Trimlight’s patented system is energy-efficient, adds to the aesthetic of your home, and is designed to last for years to come. Here are our favorites, from net lights to rope lights to twinkly LED lights that sync to your favorite holiday soundtrack. If you’re looking for more ideas, then you can even hang Christmas lights on palm trees. This is also the time to count your exterior electric outlets and identify where they are. If you have multiple power sources, you’ll have an easier time putting up outdoor lights. If not, you’ll need to purchase longer strings of lights and likely, extension cords.

How Big Was The Titanic Compared To Modern Day Cruise Ships

titanic vs cruise ship today

It’s important to note that modern cruises offer a wide range of options to suit different budgets. While luxury cruises can be quite expensive, there are also more affordable options available that provide excellent value for money. With so many options available today, travelers can find cruises that suit their budgets and preferences without compromising on comfort or enjoyment. One of the highlights of modern cruises is the variety of entertainment available onboard. Passengers can enjoy Broadway-style shows featuring talented performers who bring popular musicals to life right before their eyes. From dazzling costumes to impressive sets, these performances are sure to captivate audiences of all ages.

Titanic vs. Modern Cruise Ship: Size

In comparing the titanic vs. modern cruises, there are several key differences to consider. Let’s take a closer look at some of these factors and how they have evolved over time. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option or prefer paying separately for specific amenities or services, many cruise lines offer à la carte pricing as well.

Titanic vs. Cruise: the Ultimate Comparison with Modern Ships!

It had several restaurants, a café, a swimming pool, a gym, a library, a grand staircase, and 447 staterooms. However, the Titanic’s amenities were luxurious for their time, with opulent décor and fine dining options. Regarding entertainment, modern cruises are like the epicenter of recreation. There is much more to enjoy, from waterparks and ice skating to nightlife clubs and casinos. Almost every cruise ship also offers a spa and wellness center to soothe your senses and unwind your mind. Because of technological advancements, modern cruise ships have robust hulls and superstructures to optimize stability and buoyancy.

For comparison, the Queen Mary 2 mentioned above has 22 life boats (capacity of 150), 2 rescue boats (capacity of 6) and 60 life rafts each (capacity of 37). The Titanic actually had space on board to carry many wooden lifeboats but it was decided that only 16 lifeboats and 4 collapsable life rafts would be enough. The table below shows the Royal Caribbean cruise ship fleet ordered in terms of length with the Titanic in second place. And it’s interesting to note that, with the dimension restrictions set at 168 feet wide and 1,201 feet long, the Titanic would have been able to sail these locks quite easily. But the Silver Shadow, one of the smaller luxury ships, isn’t quite as dramatic a difference. She’s 610 feet long, which puts her at around two-thirds of the length of the Titanic.

Launched in 2004, the Queen Mary 2 was built to replicate the original RMS Queen Mary, which was first introduced in 1934. Since then, this nautical marvel has made hundreds of transatlantic crossings between England and New York City every year. The interior salon of the ship also exudes classic elegance that many vacationers have come to love over time.

Additional Costs: Amenities, Excursions, and Dining

From the immense size, passenger capacity, and luxurious amenities to the advanced technology and eco-friendly innovations, modern cruise ships have redefined the concept of luxury travel. They offer a wide range of activities, entertainment options, and dining experiences, catering to the diverse tastes and preferences of passengers from around the world. It is also important to note the stark contrast in terms of leisure and entertainment options. While the Titanic offered elegant dining rooms, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a squash court, modern cruise ships take the concept of onboard amenities to a whole new level. Passengers can enjoy multiple pools, water parks, rock-climbing walls, ice-skating rinks, zip lines, and even simulated surfing experiences.

By using sophisticated modeling software, engineers can optimize hull shapes to minimize resistance and improve hydrodynamics. This allows modern cruise ships to glide effortlessly through the water with minimal vibrations or disturbances caused by waves. These improved hull designs contribute to better fuel efficiency, reducing operating costs for cruise lines while minimizing their environmental impact. One of the most significant differences between the Titanic and modern vessels lies in their propulsion systems. The Titanic, a marvel of its time, relied on a traditional steam-powered engine to propel itself through the water. This engineering feat was cutting-edge back then, but today’s cruise ships have taken propulsion to a whole new level.

However, at 142,500 GRT, even Norwegian Viva is three times the size of the Titanic. The Titanic was known for its luxurious accommodations, with first-class passengers enjoying spacious cabins, private bathrooms, and elegant furnishings. However, third-class passengers had much more basic accommodations, with shared bunk beds and communal bathrooms. Such a comparison clearly illustrates how much larger modern ships are compared to the Titanic. In this article, we are going to see a full comparison with data, graphs, and pictures.

Gone are the days of simple piano music in the background and limited dining choices. Today’s cruise ships offer a wide array of entertainment options that rival those found on land, as well as an extensive selection of dining venues to satisfy every palate. Thanks to remarkable technological advancements, communication systems between crew members and passengers during emergencies have significantly improved on contemporary cruise ships. In the past, when a crisis unfolded at sea, it was often challenging for those onboard to communicate effectively with each other or with authorities on land.

But one thing the Titanic offered that today’s cruise ships do not, however? Meanwhile, Symphony of the Seas cost Royal Caribbean a whopping $1.35 billion. When you think of the most famous cruise ship in history, what ship do you envision? Let’s see how Titanic vs. modern cruise ship compares, including the world’s largest cruise ship, Symphony of the Seas.

It would be natural to assume that modern cruise ships would all be larger than the Titanic, since they’re all around a century newer. And while it is interesting to compare the Titanic to average cruise ship sizes, it’s worth remembering that when she was launched in 1911, she was the largest ship in the world at that time. While the Titanic may be slightly longer than the average cruise ship today, she has a much smaller gross tonnage, because she wasn’t as wide nor was she as tall. She may have had a similar number of decks, but each deck would have felt more spacious.

Onboard, there were many restaurants and cafes to serve guests; the famous ones were À la Carte, Café Parisien, and Verandah Café. However, the Icon of the Seas dwarfs the Titanic, weighing a whopping 250,800 tonnes; this means it’s five times heavier than the Titanic. Comparing the Titanic to the current Cunard fleet also shows that the Titanic was smaller and lighter than modern Cunard ships. Building methods and materials have also improved greatly since Titanic was built which allows ships to be built bigger and faster. She has worked in the cruise industry since 2015 and has taken over 30 cruises. Now, she helps over 1 million people per month to plan their perfect cruise holidays.

For example, Symphony of the Seas has 20 dining options, 10 swimming pools, a spa, a fitness center, a theater, an ice-skating rink, and a zip line. In contrast, Titanic had only two restaurants, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium. Following the Titanic disaster, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) was established to ensure that ships were equipped with proper safety measures and emergency procedures. SOLAS is still in effect today and requires modern cruise ships to have a variety of safety features, including lifeboats, life rafts, and other emergency equipment. In comparison, Wonder of the Seas is 1,187 feet long, which is around 35% longer. As the world's largest cruise ship, Wonder of the Seas holds 8,000 passengers.

Watch: This is what cruise ship anchors can do to a coral reef Coral Reefs

cruise ship anchor

If you have ever watched Titanic, you are familiar with the epic scene of Rose climbing the front of the ship supported by Jack and stretching her arms out as the wind rushes through her hair. Anchors need to be regularly maintained to ensure that they are in good working order. The chain should be inspected for any damage, and the anchor should be cleaned and lubricated.

These links are massive in scale, and they need to be constructed of high-tensile, high-strength steel. While cruise ships typically have various tools such as bow thrusters, propellers and Azipods or rudders, there are occasions where an anchor can be useful. Some of the biggest cruise ships are 2 to 2.5 times bigger, and the anchor and chains would be proportionally larger too. However, the weight of the chains is far heavier and much more of a factor in holding a ship’s position when it’s anchored offshore. Most cruise ships have two anchors, one port side and one starboard side at the front of the ship, although they are not often deployed at the same time. Some cruise ports have local laws prohibiting the use of anchors to protect coral reefs.

Cruise Ship Anchors (Sometimes) Have New Lives!

Burning fuel influences the ecosystem even though it doesn’t affect coral reefs like the anchor does. Not only does this make it possible to put the chain together, it also makes it possible to remove damaged or corroded links within the chain without completely replacing the entire anchor chain. So, if the water is 25 meters deep, you’ll need approximately 100 to 125 meters of chain. The length of the chain can vary due to wind and currents, and sometimes it’s necessary to let out more chain or shorten it.

Steel is the only suitable choice, as it offers the durability and strength required to withstand such immense forces. The high-strength steel alloys used to make these enormous anchor chains are also resistant to corrosion caused by lengthy exposure to saltwater. Today, we will take an in-depth look at cruise ship anchor chains. While it may seem like a relatively simple piece of equipment, a cruise ship’s anchor is a marvel of modern engineering. Modern technology has reduced the need for anchors but hasn’t completely eliminated it.

After all, only in the case of Wagner’s opera Der fliegende Holländer (the “Flying Dutchman”) is the ship cursed to sail the seas indefinitely. But, at times, reaching a destination does not mean that the vessel is immediately able to enter the port to be moored to a berth. For many reasons, the vessel may be required to use an offshore anchorage, securing itself in one location for a period of time. Naval architects, engineers, and industry experts utilize methods such as calculations, computer simulations, and field testing to determine the optimal anchor weight. These methodologies ensure that the anchor can withstand strong currents, adverse weather conditions, and provide the necessary grip on various seabeds.

Furthermore, nobody wants to wake up at five in the morning to the sound of a freight train as the ship drops anchor. A contemporary cruise ship is not likely to lose its moorings. As a result, the second will serve as a backup in case the first breaks down for any reason. Large cruise ships utilize 3/8-inch thick chains, whereas smaller ships use 1/4-inch thick chains and medium-sized ships use 5/18-inch thick chains. To learn more about the anchor of a cruise ship, rather than just the chain that connects it to the ship, we recommend reading about how big a cruise ship anchor is. This straightforward guide explains how big these enormous anchors need to be and provides other helpful information on how modern anchors work.

There are a variety of different types of cruise ship anchors, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The most common type of anchor is the fluke anchor, which has two or more flukes that dig into the seabed. Other types of anchors include the mushroom anchor, the claw anchor, and the drag anchor. But they’re not used in the same way as anchors on smaller boats. Instead, cruise ship anchors are used to keep the ships in place when they’re docked. Some cruise lines choose to use dynamic positioning systems, which use the ship’s engines to keep the ship idle, if there are no fixed mooring locations available.

Here’s a sample table to show you the correlation between the lengths of chains based on their anchors’ weight. When an anchor is lowered into the ocean, sufficient slack must be in the chain, which rests on the seabed. The slack provides a greater surface area of contact with the seabed, which absorbs more movement. Starboard hand refers to a buoy on the starboard side of a cruise ship. It is found either on the hull or outside the right side of a cruise ship. What is truly remarkable about a cruise ship is not the magnitude of its size but how the different parts work together, and we don’t just mean in the engine room.

What Happens When The Anchor Is Dropped?

Most of the time, however, the cruise ship uses only one anchor and keeps the other one for backup. Smaller vessels use 1/4 inch thick chains, medium ships use 5/18 inch chains, and the biggest cruise ships use 3/8 inch chains. Under normal conditions, the ship will swing on its anchor and will respond to currents, moving only within the circumscribed anchorage boundaries defined on the nautical chart.

I find all this info fascinating and am very grateful to John for helping me learn all the details. There are around 1,000 links in the chain, so the whole anchor chain will weigh around 50 tons. Of course, with smaller ships, the anchor and the chain will weigh less than this.

If the anchor cannot reach the seabed, it is serving no purpose and is simply a weight dangling from the ship into the sea. Although this would involve keeping the ship’s engine running, using lots of fuel and keeping the crew busy overseeing it all. Whenever the forces subside, the chain slackens, and some of it falls back on the seabed as the ship eases back toward the anchor. Assuming an average human weight of 80kg, an anchor weighing to kilos would be 125 to 168 times heavier. Cruise ship anchors can be 2 to 3 times an average human height of 5ft 9inches.

They are typically constructed from high-strength material such as steel, capable of withstanding the forces exerted by an enormous vessel. While it may seem pretty self-explanatory, a cruise ship anchor chain plays a complex and incredibly important role in ensuring the overall safety of a cruise ship voyage. These massive chains need to withstand the incredible forces exerted on the cruise ship’s anchor when the cruise ship is in the harbor. This case involves a cruise ship that frequently visits ports with unstable seabed conditions, such as areas with muddy or sandy bottoms. The anchor design takes into account the need for larger flukes and more surface area to obtain a firm grip. Consequently, the anchor weight is increased to 8 tons to provide the necessary stability and prevent anchor dragging in these challenging seabed conditions.

The collaboration between naval architects, engineers, and industry experts helps to achieve an optimal anchor weight that ensures the safety and stability of the cruise ship. It’s important to note that these factors are not mutually exclusive and often interrelated. A thorough analysis of these factors, along with other considerations such as ship design and intended usage, is required to determine the optimal weight for a cruise ship anchor.

There is a lot of machinery and chain involved in the anchoring process and if any were to become damaged or required maintenance the other anchor could be used. Considering that they’re meant to spend large amounts of time in the water, they use metals resistant to long-term corrosion damage. They may also be made from fiber-reinforced composites or polymers such as carbon fiber. The below table shows the correlation between anchor weight and chain length.

Guests tend to see only a small part of what is needed to run the cruise ship. Many locations are off-limits to guests and only accessible to crew members, so you probably don’t have a clue about what is going on below deck. But when you look at these components, you’ll be amazed at how a cruise ship operates. Cruise ship anchors can cost anywhere from a few thousand dollars to several hundred thousand dollars. Once the anchor is in the water, it is released and allowed to fall to the seabed. The anchor is then dug into the seabed by the force of the water flowing past it.
